President-elect Ram Nath Kovind was handed over the post and responsibility of India's President by Pranab Mukherjee on 25th July. Ram Nath Kovind is the former governor of Bihar who won the 2017 Presidential elections against Meira Kumar.
Unlike Prime Minister, the President cannot be chosen by the people of the state themselves but is elected by an electoral college i.e. the elected representatives of the government.
The one who said, "I feel privileged to walk on the same path as Dr Radhakrishnan, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Pranab Da. I hope to live up to that greatness," in his swearing-in speech is the 14th President of the independent India. He has been preceded by 13 honourable presidents since 1947 -- the historic year.
In spite of possessing powers of preserving, protecting, and defending India's Constitution to those of discontinuing both the houses of Parliament, he is also the supreme commander of the Indian Armed Forces.
Although Mr Mukherjee was also eligible to get re-elected, our country is blessed to face an all-new tenure under a fresh leader.
Not forgetting the ones who contributed their years of loyalty to the nation, today we would like to commemorate all those Presidents that even an adult must have forgotten. Let's have a look at them!
