A mysterious medical condition in China left doctors baffled when they witnessed an incident that never happened before.
The stomach of a baby girl in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Hong Kong was swollen when she was born. She was diagnosed with two masses in her abdominal area. Doctors thought they were tumors. But unexpectedly, they were fetuses.
In medical term, the condition is said 'fetus in fetu.' 3-weeks-old pregnant baby with twins underwent surgery to remove the fetuses.
They were in the process of growing inside the womb of newborn baby girl.
Hong Kong Medical Journal says this kind of condition is seen one in 500,000 births.
'Fetus in fetu' condition might be seen when a mother develops triplets inside womb and the surviving baby absorbs other two inside its body.
In 2012, a similar case was seen in China. An 11-year-old girl was diagnosed with 'fetus in fetu' condition and a breast and the third arm emerged on her back.
