Brave Teenager Has Hysterectomy After Finding Out Her 'Pregnant' Belly Was Actually Stage Three Ovarian Cancer

Riley Benado, an 18-year-old graduate of Paso Robles High School, went to a doctor with a swollen stomach, only to find out she had enlarged lymph nodes and extra fluid in her stomach. These turned out to be potential symptoms of ovarian cancer. The brave and inspirational teenager has written a very emotional post about her decision to go for a hysterectomy after being diagnosed with stage three ovarian cancer on her blog Rally For Riley. Riley had a 13 cm mass on one ovary that affected both sides. Her uterus, ovaries, eggs and other infected organs were removed in the process.

In one of her GoFundMe campaigns, Riley said, " I went to the gynecologist for a check-up because I was experiencing severe bloating and pain in my pelvis region. It looked like I was five-months pregnant. The doctors gave me a pregnancy test, and of course it was negative. I was experiencing all of this, and yet I'm still a virgin."

She was devastated when she heard the news.

She says, "At this age, removal of these parts of my body is not only scary, but it's heartbreaking. I have always dreamed of having my own children and raising a family. I love kids so much that when I came to know I will never have a child with my own genes and my own characteristics, I was devastated."

She hopes people consult doctors at the very sight of such symptoms so that they don't have to make any heart-breaking sacrifices later.

The inspirational Californian teen says,"Because this is so rare for someone at such a young age, I hope that others become aware of Ovarian Cancer after reading about my story. I hope my journey inspires others and helps anyone going through similar challenges to understand that they, too can overcome a difficult battle. Thank you for your love, support, encouragement, and contribution to this fight. Together, I believe we can beat this!"
