It is an occurrence called Leukonychia, which indicates air trapping inside the finger nail.
One may find various horizontal lines over the nail due to an injury on the base of the nail.
At times, the white dots will appear as a sign of genetics or as a fungal infection or vitamin deficiency.
If you wish to avoid Leukonychia, make sure you consume enough zinc which repairs finger nails. Proteins are also important in keeping your finger nails healthy.
It could also happen that Leukonychia may indicate a major organ failure. So even after dietary modifications, if it doesn't go away, make sure you get yourself checked.
