"There are many things in heaven and earth, Horatio." There are cases where we have just said this line. Because we don't even have a chance to know anything about them. And why is there no chance for us to know what they are? Because government kept them away.
Now whether it is for the security reasons or the exposure of the story might just put the government in some troubleshooting position, that's debatable. But it is true that there are some issues whose confidentiality is being guarded by the governments of different countries more than anything. At least they are trying to guard them. So what are these? Let's have a look at some.
Recently, American President has said that USA has only 2% of the proven oil reserve of USA. What is to be done when a president wants to create a myth? The reality is that the U.S. has enough recoverable oil for the next 200 years, despite only having " 2 percent " of the world's current proven oil reserves. So the facts provided, as per deductions is not true. Currently, USA has 1442 billion barrels of technically recoverable oil, but only 20 billion are reported as proven oil reserve. So why this myth? Just to keep energy scarcity alive? Answer lies with government of USA.
In one word, this can be stated as inhumane. For 40 years, between 1932 and 1972, the U.S Public Health Service in collaboration with Tuskegee Institute, conducted a "survey" on rural African-American men in Alabama. They were told that they were being treated for free and were to be cured soon. This was a genuine lie. It was apparently a clinical study on how syphilis works. The people had never been told about the truth of the disease they had. The blood samples had been collected from those unfortunate human guinea pigs for research work.
We find it damn offending even if our younger brother stands behind us and takes a peek on whatever we are writing to a friend in Facebook. But people in NSA seems to be fine with secret prying on the citizen of America by looking at their e-mails, chat messages or whatever data is being sent beyond the national boundary. As long as you aren't caught, you aren't a thief you see!
One deliberate and cold blooded attempt by CIA was Project MK Ultra. The program began in the early 1950s, was officially sanctioned in 1953, was reduced in scope in 1964, further curtailed in 1967 and officially halted in 1973. The project was basically conducting experiments on unwitting US and Canadian citizens to find out the effects of biological and chemical agents on them, so that they could stay at par with Russia and China during cold war. A debatable opinion says that it was a way to make assassins by mind controlling. Free will, anyone?
Although it was believed that Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose died in a plane crash in August 1945, his body was never recovered. There have so many theories been put forward regarding his abrupt desertion. But none were proper and never approved by the Government. Repeatedly committees had been opened to solve the mystery but they were abruptly put to an end. What has the Indian government been trying to hide is still not clear. Though recently government has claimed to have declassified 64 files on Subhash Chandra Bose demise. But until the results come out, skepticism is the only approach.
One of the most well-covered Nuclear Projects ever was this. For 10 years from 1989 to 1998, things were kept mysteriously hidden from all eyes. The blast even took US officials in CLA by surprise. Only after the running of the test did people come to know about the fact that there was an underground project going on periodically. Not a common man's cup of tea, eh?
When is the postmortem report of a man kept away from his family? And that too by the government of a country? The family of the eminent Indian Leader Lal Bahadur Shastri have claimed that he has died of poisoning. But the Indian government have always claimed his death to be natural. But the death reports of the leader has always been kept away from commons because apparently they can create political tension with foreign nations. So much for a natural death?
The name of John Lennon is so huge, that no one looks beyond it. But FBI and MI5 were kind of against of him settling down in United States. The singer allegedly had indulgence in some kind of political activities that they didn't approve of. For example, he was a follower of Marxism which was kind of evident in some of his works. He used to support a Marxist magazine too. USA laws and orders surely had problems with that!
There are some rumors which appear too good to be true. Area 51 is one of them. Area 51 or Groom lake is situated in the outskirts of L.A. and is a U.S military installation. The hugely spread rumor about this place is that the US government uses this place to put alien space craft remains, crashed UFOs and whatever is the fantasy of a Sci-fi lover. But some CIA veteran has also verified the theory, saying that the place is used for the testing of spy planes.
One of the most desperate attempts to brainwash the public was this. The CIA tried to hire all the media and create fake journalism and magazines in 1950s. All they wanted was to create fear in the public against communism. As it developed, it also worked to influence foreign media and political campaigns, in addition to activities by other operating units of the CIA. Desperate times, desperate measures?
It isn't clear whether this is a myth or truth, but the story goes like there is a bunker nine stories below the lowest floor of Grand Central Station. Also there is a track number 61 which isn't there in any map. It is said to be a shelter of soldiers during World War II. The presence is known to be only a few who are eligible enough to know it.
