Losing weight isn't as easy as it sounds, especially when the path you take includes dieting. Now, we all know how difficult it can be, you literally have to force yourself to turn head in the opposite direction from those delicious cupcakes and cheese pizzas, but that traitorous nose of yours tells you 'just one bite'. Then, you are a goner!
Kira Walker, a 29-year-old mum of two could not stop drinking Coca Cola. She was so much addicted to the drink, that she gulped almost two litres of it in a single day. It's amazing what happened when she ditched the drink. Her story is an inspiration to every junk food addict.
Coca Cola is generally a refreshment drink for most people. One can of the fizzy drink can really get you going through the day, but Kira Walker started her day with a can. Any day, she would easily guzzle two liters of the drink, ensuring 2000 calories intake. She explains her love for the drink. "As a kid, I'd only been allowed diet drinks in moderation, so as an adult I would have full fat fizzy drinks whenever I could."
In return to her love for it, Coca Cola gifted her a balloon shaped body, upgrading her from 19'st to 21st 8.5lbs, she was struggling to fit in a size 26. The sweetening drink was costing her a lot of money every year.
After she stopped consuming the drink, she lost 9 stones straight in just one year. She explained: "I was fat and was in complete denial." She was over-weight since a young age. "Even when I was downing two liters of Coca Cola a day, I didn't really think it was that unhealthy. Looking back now, I can't believe how many calories I was consuming in drinks alone. Cutting fizzy drinks out of my diet made such a huge difference. I almost can't believe I was ever that big."
Kira met her husband, Spencer when she weighed 13stones and 8lbs and was a size 18. She talks about her relationship with her husband, and how after her first child she was diagnosed with post-natal depression. "I managed to keep extra weight off until our wedding in August 2005, when I was about a size 18," she explains. "But after that the pounds started piling on and I was eating more to cope with my feelings."
"I realised I wasn't giving Allysha and Josh everything that I could. I'd see other mums taking their kids swimming, or chasing them around the park," she continues. "I was so overweight that I would break out in a sweat after climbing the stairs. Even walking them five minutes to school was too much for my bulky frame." She describes how it became difficult for her to be a mother as she could not carry her body. Although, it wasn't until June 2004, when she experienced slight pain in her heart and thought she was having a heart attack, she decided to ditch her unhealthy eating habits.
Kira animatedly explains how after leaving the fizzy drink she could almost feel the pounds falling off her. She started to feel energetic and awake. It was her children who were most happy with her weight loss as now she do the things she missed out when she was over-weight. In one year, she went from bulky size 26 to sweet 14. "Now that I feel more confident than ever, I'll never go back to my bad fizzy drink habits again," she adds. "I'll never let myself get back into those bad habits and I don't miss the Coca Cola at all. Now, I treat myself to just one diet coke a week. I've learned to do everything in moderation."
