Shannon and Chris Neuman celebrated their divorce in a surprising way: They took a ‘divorce selfie’ outside the court. When Shannon shared the photo on Facebook, it went viral in a very less time and was shared for more than 35,000 times on the social media website.
But this wasn’t a cliched selfie as it sounds.
The post reads: “Here’s Chris Neuman and I yesterday after filing for divorce! But we’re smiling?! Yep, we’re kooky like that. Are we smiling because the partner we chose for forever turned out not to be the forever partner we needed? Of course not,” Shannon explained on Facebook. “We’re smiling because we have done something extraordinary (we think anyway!) We have respectfully, thoughtfully and honourably ended our marriage in a way that will allow us to go forward as parenting partners for our children, the perfect reason that this always WAS meant to be, so they will never have to choose.”
The Neumans didn’t want their children’s future to be emotionally disturbed like it generally happens with kids with separated parents. So they decided to take a divorce after a marriage of 11 years on good terms and made sure the happiness of their kids gets doubled instead of being halved.
Children of divorced parents generally go through immeasurable pain, and it gets disturbing for both the separate spouses to maintain a healthy relationship with their kids. The decision Neumans took is appreciable and we hope their children have a normal future like other kids.
