The Couple Who Quit Their Hefty Jobs To Travel Ended Up Scrubbing Toilets

Chanel Cartell and Stevo Dirnberger, a South African couple did not want this year to go like the previous ones. And for which, they took a decision to quit their long-established advertising jobs to travel the fascinating world which is far from their home. They wanted to know how far they can travel from their very location.

The couple has been writing about their journey on a blog "How Far From Home" and posting photographs of beautiful locations since the beginning of their trip. After leaving everything behind, it was really hard for them to manage hard cash. Requirements during the trip made them scrub out toilets in Greece too. Cartell said, “We wanted to paint an honest picture for anyone considering to do the same thing, just in case they thought traveling non-stop was a glamorous fantasy.”

Far away from home.

Far away from home.

The journey was more than what they had thought to be.

Cartell wrote on her blog: "I am not at my fittest, slimmest or physically healthiest. We eat jam on crackers most days, get roughly 5 hrs of sleep per night, and lug our extremely heavy bags through cobbled streets at 1 AM, trying to find our accommodation (because bus fares are not part of the budget, obviously)."

But, whatever it costs, travelling adds true happiness to their life.

"It's like heaven for us," she wrote. "Sure, wood needs to be stacked, and garbage needs to be taken out (it's our version of a shit sandwich, as Mark Manson put it), but once that's done, we're free to explore, wander and be one with our meandering thoughts."
