Garrick, Nolan's mother and her husband could only read a few words out of the yellowish letter that said, "I wish I could see you... I love you so much... I love you, Diane'. Although they couldn't find whom the letter was addressed to, they saw that it read 'M'. The signature of the letter however, was immediately recognized by Garrick as that of her friend Diane Bryant.

On one fine occasion when Bryant was on a trip and Rogers wasn't allowed to come for some reasons, she wrote a note and put it in a bottle and threw it in the lake, hoping that Rogers would find it later that summer.

Appears that it took 45 summers for the letter to reach Rogers.
