Like every mother around the world, she was taking proper care of her baby. But an incident left her not only with a lifetime regret but 30 long years behind the bars. There was a devil inside a mother.
Courtney Nicole Howell (27) is an unfortunate mother from Utah who gave an overdose of methadone to help her 17-month-old baby Jaslynn Mansfield sleep. In her own words, she was making her baby girl sleep. That was a regular day, she filled the toxic methadone in her baby's bottle and let her consume. Hours passed, when Howell woke up, she found her baby was not breathing. Frantically, she dialled 911 and informed about the child. Jaslynn was rushed to the nearby hospital, but doctors couldn't do anything. They told the baby had a drug overdose. She had died already.
'Trying to forgive myself is an endless battle I struggle with daily,' Howell told media wiping away her tears. 'I can't make up my wrong by giving my little girl back her life.'
Police arrested her, and the court announced her 30 years of imprisonment for killing her child. Reports say Jaslynn's father had also died of a drug overdose just a few months before she born. Howell was aware of the drug risk so there are chances to say that the death of her child was not accidental.
After jail, Howell wants to spend her life with a good cause. She wants to make people aware of drug abuse and child endangerment. She said: 'I plan to take every opportunity given to me to help change myself and my life.'
