Like humans, I suppose bathroom exhaust fans get tired of working too, due to which the amount of dirt and dust they accumulate is insane. Clean it out by first pulling the fan cover down gently. It's probably held in place by metal pins on each side, which you can squeeze together to get the fan cover to come off completely. Unplug the fan to avoid electric shocks. Next, remove any other nuts and/or screws that are securing the fan and motor assembly, and remove them from the ceiling. Clean the fan blades and the motor assembly, which most probably would be caked with dust, dirt, and hair, but will come off fairly easily using a damp microfiber cloth. Now, take a look at the exhaust vent and the fan housing. If there is dust and grime inside, wipe down the housing with your damp microfiber cloth as well, and, the cleaning is done! Replace the exhaust fan by doing the aforementioned steps in reverse.

Check hoses for blockage and also check where the dirt goes into the canister and the hose attachment. Use a seam ripper to remove hair and string from the roller brush; scissors would work too.
