“India has failed to generate even a single earth-shaking invention in the past 60 years that could become a household name globally”
N.R. Narayana Murthy spoke at Indian Institute of Science (IIS) in Bangalore and made a statement that India has made no significant contribution to the world in the past 60 years, in the field of the invention. No ground-breaking invention as good as the MRI, the elecric bulb or something that the world remembers us by.
People all over the country had mixed response to what he had to say. And here is one that aptly analyzes and reasons with the statement.
This open letter is an eye opener.
Dishant Ghai belongs to Indore, India and has an IT background. He efficiently points out in his letter that there is no someone to blame in this situation. He acknowledges his statement and reasons it with an appropriate response.
Dishant points out that problem solving not only calls for invention but innovation too. And how our system of recruiting the free minds in a formal job, kills every bit of innovation that comes to a young mind naturally.
He also points out that our society functions on revenue generated model. Any Value creating system that does not generate revenue is disregarded in our system.
He concludes by saying that biggest entrepreneurs in India have also some stake in the fact that India has not been able to make an earth-shattering contribution to the world in the field of invention. You can also read his open letter here.
