Some celebrated gay couples have been celebrating their brave love since years and decades and have been endlessly standing up for the rights of their community since. Here is a sneak peek in the lives of the 10 most powerful lesbian couples who have always been open and out about their sexuality and have paved a new path of celebrating love.
Although the Mean Girls star projects herself as a bisexual person, her public appearances with Samantha Ronson speak volumes about her love. The couple has been seen kissing ad holding hands in public many times and in 2008, they moved in together. Lindsay is quite expressive about her relationship with Ronson and admitted about it in a radio show once.
Daughter of America's former vice-president Dick Cheney, Mary met Heather Poe in 1992 while playing ice hockey. Although the Bush-Cheney government was against same-sex marriages, Mary Cheney supported gay rights and went on to marry Heather Poe in a civil ceremony in 2012. The couple has two children. Mary gave birth to Sarah Lynne Cheney on November 18, 2009 and Samuel David Cheney was born on May 23, 2007 in Washington, D.C.
A student of journalism and human sexuality, Del Martin met Phyllis Lyon in 1950 when both of there working for the same publication. In 1952, the couple went into a relationship and in 1953, they moved in together. They went on to become the first lesbian couple to get married in San Francisco when they tied the knot in 2004. They stayed married and completely in love until Del Martin died on August 27, 2008.
Former executive director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Urvashi Vaid met Kate Clinton in February 1988 at a War Conference. According to one of their friends, although with their girlfriends, both these ladies were attracted to each other strongly and the way they talked reflected it completely. The couple has vowed to not get married but are together since a long time, and it always only seems to get stronger!

Stacy Codikow, Founder & Executive Director of POWER UP, an organisation working for empowerment of lesbians in the filed of arts, met movie producer Lisa Thrasher at a POWER UP pool party. Although it wasn't love at first sight, Lisa and Stacy soon found out that they had a pretty common circle. So one thing led to other and the couple then began dating. Stacy states, 'We've never thought of ourselves as a power couple. We think of the work as making a difference.' And that, makes them a power couple!
Celebrated lesbian comedian Suzanne Westenhoefer was performing on an Olivia Cruise when she met the vice president of Sweet Lesbian travel company Jennifer Houston. Both the women have always been very expressive of their sexuality and are dynamic gay rights activists .
Portia met Ellen in 2004 during a photo shoot and cupid struck immediately. In Portia's words, 'I ran into Ellen at a photo shoot [in 2004] and she took my breath away. That had never happened to me in my life, where I saw somebody and [experienced] all of those things you hear about in songs and read about in poetry. My knees were weak.'
