“Gereja Ayam”, also known as a Chicken Church was built deep inside the Indonesian jungle in 1990. Its structure looks like a giant chicken. This mysterious place attracts hundreds of curious travelers and photographers to the hills of Magelang, Central Java, every year.
Daniel Alamsjah, a 67-year-old man was working in Jakarta, 342 miles away from where the Chicken church was built later. One day, suddenly in his dream, he received a “message from God.” In that divine message, he was told to build a prayer house in the form of a dove.
In 1989, he was walking through the Magelang, where he found the same landscape that he saw in his dream that night. He sat there and prayed all night.
One year later, A local landowner offered him 3,000 square meters of land in Rhema Hill for £110, which was difficult for him to arrange at the moment. He paid it off over four years. Out of genuine faith in his heart, Daniel started building the prayer house. The nearby people assumed the building to be a church which structure is like a chicken. Well, it’s neither a church, nor it belongs to any specific religion. It is just a prayer house.
