USA is celebrating its 239th birthday on Saturday. Every American is ready to blast the day. On this day America proudly observes fireworks, flagging, parades, face paintings, concerts, drinking, etc.
Here is a list of few facts about the American Independence day you might not know.
John Adams, 2nd U.S. President, believed 2nd July to be the proper day to celebrate Independence Day. 2nd July was the day when the Continental Congress voted in favor of Lee's resolution for independence.
Most of the flags and fireworks are imported from China. In 2013, fireworks worth $204 million was imported, and in 2014, China produced US flags of $3.5 million for Independence Day celebration.
Founding fathers of the country John Adams (2nd President) and Thomas Jefferson (3rd President) both died on July 4, 1826. James Monroe ( 5th President) also died on July 4 five years later in 1831.
Drinking on this day is tradition. More than $1 billion is spent on beer each year.
The first celebration occurred in Bristol, Rhode Island and Philadelphia. 13 gunshots were fired once at morning time and again in evening.
Congress did not make July 4th a paid federal holiday until 1938.
Nathan's Famous hot dog eating contest falls on 4th July. Whoever eats the highest number of hot dogs within 10 minutes wins a cash prize along with a Mustard Belt.
