We experience various seasons throughout the year but that one season when the tension is at its peak is the exam season. And if you have faced board exams or are going to face, then you must be knowing or will get to know how life turns upside down for those 2-3 months of rigorous preparations.
I still remember my father getting television's cable disconnected during my brother's board exams when I was small. My father wanted no distractions in the house, and we all had to adopt a different lifestyle so that my brother could pass his board exams with flying colours. We even stopped entertaining guests or visiting places so that complete focus shifts to just academics.
Today, the scenario has changed a lot and we remember those nostalgic things that our parents or we used to do when we had our exams. Here are some of the most different things that will take you back in time.
Leave toppers aside because they used to pay attention to the textbooks but students who relied on the index part or used to refer summaries always had pariksha bodh or guides at their rescue. Today, it has all changed to sample papers or e-papers which highlight all important things.
Guess papers were so on trend back then that students used consider them more important than the actual exam paper. In fact, some students used to sell guess paper to other students for minting money or playing pranks.
More than being a competition amongst students, board exams used to be a competition amongst the schools too. All schools wanted their students to pass with flying colours, and that is why teachers used to give IMP (important) questions.
It doesn't matter if you believe in good luck or if you preach God's name, but as soon as the exam season would arrive, all students would preach and pray that they get good marks. One of the common rituals inspired by Bollywood films was having dahi-shakkar.
Back in the 90's, all students didn't have the privilege of sitting on tables and chairs while appearing for exams, some students would also sit on the floor, and that is when the clipboard was their saviour aka best friend.
Months before the examinations even approached, parents would get the cable connection disconnected so that their kids focus completely on the exam and devote less time to watching TV, etc.
Back then, stepping out of the house was considered as a serious crime during exams. But, as soon as the exams used to get over kids would play as if they haven't played any outdoor game since ages.
Exams were a legit pain in the ass back then. And if there would be any festival that would fall during the exams, you know you'd be screwed because you won't get to celebrate the festival. That was so torturous, sometimes the entire family would enjoy but the kid who had the exam next day would study in an isolated room.
Cheating was done at a whole new level because there were no CCTV cameras in the classrooms. Also, teachers were super supportive because they would secretively tell all the answers to their favourite students and everyone would simply walk out of the examination hall with a wide smile on face.
Those were the days when if you passed with flying colours, your roll number would be printed in the newspaper. On the day of the announcement of the results, every student and every parent would be seen with a newspaper in hand and kids would just pray that they get hold of the newspaper before their parents do.
That's all, people.
If you too are a 90's kid and have lived these moments, share them with your friends.
