The untimely demise of Bollywood's most celebrated actress Sridevi sent shockwaves across the nation. After much banter, speculations and debatable arguments the actress was finally brought to India but not in a way all of us wanted.
Sridevi passed away in Dubai on Sunday, 24 February 2018 after a cardiac arrest and was finally brought to India for last rites on Tuesday (February 27) night. A prayer meeting was held on Wednesday, 28 February, and was attended by the entire film fraternity.
On Tuesday night, the aircraft carrying Sridevi's mortal remains flew from Dubai at 7 pm (IST) and landed in India at 9:30 pm.
Actress Sonam Kapoor along with her father and renowned actor Anil Kapoor was at the airport to receive Sridevi's mortal remains. From the airport, the ambulance was taken to Boney Kapoor's Lokhandwala residence where celebrities and fans were waiting to pay tribute to the actress.
While Salman Khan has not been vocal about his grief on any social media platforms, he paid a visit to Boney Kapoor and family on Tuesday night,
Sridevi's step-children Arjun Kapoor and sister Anshula Kapoor were standing with their father and half-sisters Khushi and Jhanvi Kapoor in this tough time. Reportedly, the actor also flew to Dubai when the forensics report and post-mortem proceedings were taking time.
Eminent people and fans paid their last respect to the actress on February 28 at Celebration Sports Club Garden No 5, Lokhandwala Complex. Her cremation ceremony was scheduled for 3.30 pm at Pawan Hans.
Draped in red saree, Sridevi was wrapped in the tricolour considering her remarkable contribution to the entertainment industry and the society.
Numerous fans were waiting since morning to catch the last glimpse of the actress.
Tabu, Jacqueline Fernandez, Deepika Padukone, Kajol, Vidya Balan, Rekha and Sridevi's favourite designer and close friend Manish Malhotra attended the condolence meet.
Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya Rai, Madhuri Dixit, Saroj Khan and Jaya Bachchan were seen remembering the actress as well.
"It's media's job to ask questions, it's people's call if they want to throw it in the dustbin or not. At this moment, family is in a lot of pain," Annu Kapoor told ANI.
"Daughters have lost their mother at such a young age. We should pray for them," he further added.
Board members of her society in Lokhandwala have decided to not have a Holi celebration this year. Actress Shabana Azmi has also cancelled the Holi party that she was initially planning to host.
Apart from that Mumbai Police band arrived at Lokhandwala Complex for Sridevi's final journey to the cremation centre. She was also given a state honour and various fans held flowers in their hands and chanted prayers in long queues to bid a final goodbye to Ms Hawa Hawai.
