Ever been in a situation where your friends are like, "Ab kya yahan udd kar aega?"
Well, I guess it is the time we accept the fact that people in Bangalore can actually do that if they wish to. Flying in a helicopter is no big deal for them now. All thanks to the heli taxi! *Sigh*
Now, you can travel a distance which you would ideally travel in 2 hrs within 15 minutes. Sounds like a plan na? But, before you head further and get nostalgic about this fact, let's discuss all the basics that you need to know about these taxis.
Thumby Aviation is the company who will be taking care of these helicopter taxis. The flights would cover a route from Bangalore's Kempegowda International Airport to Electronic City, Phase 1 to HAL Airport.
"It is a Bell-407, which we got for about ₹33 crore, and it is a 6-seater. Currently, it takes more than an hour-and-half to reach Electronics City. The heli taxi service will take just 15 minutes," said the firm's Managing Director K.N.G. Nair.
With flexible timings, these taxis will operate in two shifts, and the flights will most likely have a peak time during the business hours (it varies from firm to firm) when most of the working class of Bangalore commutes.
According to a CNT report, an average of three-round trips will take place from 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM. And, other three-round trips from 3:00 PM to 6:15 PM. This four-blade single-engine Bell 407 chopper will be used as a heli taxi to accommodate six people at a time.
As per the same CNT report, the tickets for the taxi are to be charged as Rs 4,130 per seat (Rs 3,500 + GST). It will include the drive from airport's terminal to the helipad of the respective premises. One can carry luggage weighing upto 15 kgs per trip. Anything exceeding that will be shipped via ground forces.
The application HeliTaxii App with which you can book your taxi is up and ready for use, reported a news portal. You can choose a flight, add a pick-up and drop details, add luggage details, select the number of seats and finally complete the payment in the app. The company is planning to expand the services and destinations, informed Govind Nair, director, business development at Thumby Aviation.
"If all goes to plan, you could soon set off on a weekend getaway to Chikmagalur or Wayanad on a heli taxi," he said further.
As per The News Minute, some lucky couples got a chance to travel in the heli taxi on Valentine's Day. The couples arrived at the airport and were thrilled with the entire experience.
We held a competition starting last week where listeners had to guess the name of the movie based on its dialogue. Every ninth caller who got the answer right was rewarded with a free helicopter taxi ride in the city on Valentine's Day," explained Reo Raymond, part of Indigo 91.9 FM which partnered with KIA to give the lucky couples, an early experience of the heli taxi.
This new venture is going to cut the travel time and is actually a direct solution to people's plea and woes on traffic. We hope this turns out to be a big success.
