I recently read that a cab driver kidnapped a baby girl and beheaded her on the night of the lunar eclipse for his wife's better health, after a tantrik adviced him to.
Which age are we living in?
We have read in ancient texts about people killing other humans as a ritual, all to please their gods and spirits, but with time these sacrifices stopped."
*Well, this is what we all thought.*
But the following instances will shock your wits out. They will not only scare you, but also reveal the dark side of our society.
According to The Guardian, in March 2006, six cases of human sacrifice were reported from the state of Uttar Pradesh alone.
HUMANS, THIS IS INHUMAN!
Cab driver Kerukonda Rajasekhar along with his wife Srilatha abducted a baby girl. Rajasekhar took the girl to Musi river near Prathapsingaram, that's where he beheaded her. After dumping the torso in the river, he carried the detached head home in a polythene bag. The murder came to light on February 1.
According to Indian Express, when police investigated, they found Rajasekhar to be highly superstitious. They also realised that he has been visiting black magicians and witch doctors to look for solutions to his financial difficulties and health issues of his wife, Srilatha. The tantrik they met advised asked them to sacrifice of a girl child to solve their problems.
In 2015, in Pokuru Village, Andhra Pradesh, 30-year-old Tirumala Rao was thrashed and set ablaze by locals after he was accused of practicing human sacrifice.
According to Indian Express, Tirumala Rao took a boy from an anganwadi (child care centre) to his house. He chopped the boy's head, collected the blood in a vessel and spattered it all over his house.
When the victim's mother went to the anganwadi and inquired about her son, she was told he has gone with Rao. When villagers found Rao, they tied him to a pole, beat him and set him on fire by pouring kerosene.
Sumitra Bushan, who lived in Barha, Jabalpur, believed she was cursed. Helpless Sumitra consulted a tantrik who advised her to sacrifice a chicken. But when situations didn't improve, he encouraged her to sacrifice a boy from her village.
According to The Guardian, Sumitra along with her two sons sneaked into their neighbour's home and kidnapped three-year-old Aakash Singh. They hauled him into their house where two men used a knife to chop off the child's nose, ears and hands before placing his bleeding body in front of Goddess Kali.
The police later arrested the mother and her sons.
According to The Times Of India, a 60-year-old tribal man, who went missing, was allegedly sacrificed in Jharkhand's Gumla district for better rainfall and harvest.
Police found Thepa Kharia's headless body from his house. When the police could not find the separated head, villagers said that it must have been buried. Kharia's family suspected that the man was killed by Orkas. Orkas is a group of specialists who sacrifice humans and bury their heads in fields before sowing season to please the rain God.
Seven-year-old Lalita Tati from Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district went missing on October 21 and her dead body was discovered after six days.
According to Indian Express, nearly all organs from her body were missing. Initially, the Bijapur police suspected it to be a case of rape and murder, but then police arrested Sukku Padam and Ignesh Kujur.
"They have confessed that they cut her body and offered her liver to the goddess to ensure a good harvest," the police statement said.
In 2003, a priest, Chandrabhan Singh Lodhi from Uttar Pradesh beheaded 55-year-old Alam Ahirwar to satisfy the Goddess. He believed that human sacrifice would lead him to some hidden treasure. Ahirwar was also in search of hidden wealth.
According to The Hindu, during the investigation, Lodhi narrated that he and Ahirwar started pooja to attract goddess Durga at the temple, but when the Ahirwar bowed before the goddess, the priest killed him with an axe. He then threw the remains on the railway tracks.
In November 2017, a 39-year-old man allegedly killed his adolescent son and diced off his genitals and parts of the head to "ward off evil spirits" after a witch specialist in Balodabazar district of Chhattisgarh advised him to do so.
According to NDTV, Rajesh Yadav, the witch doctor told Ramgopal Patel, the father that some evil spirits possessed him and "sacrificing his son was the only solution to get rid of them".
In August 2017, the Yavatmal district and sessions court awarded death penalty to seven persons, including a woman, for the barbaric killing of a seven-year-old girl.
According to The Times Of India report, in 2012, an accused Shirbhate declared that he controlled by a God who commanded human sacrifice from others. The accused brought Swapna Palaskar (7) to Yashodabai's house where Ramchandra cut the girl's head with a knife. The girl's blood was then offered to the Goddess at a village temple, and also all the accused drank the blood as 'prasad'.
These cases left me speechless. How can we call ourselves developing or modern or smart or mature if we are still stuck in such a society?
