Do you remember Bholi Punjaban from the movie Fukrey? What if I say that there are some real-life Bholi Punjabans in Delhi?
Recently, a 32-year-old woman was arrested for snatching cell phones for a living.
In 2017, a 38-year-old lady was busted for running the biggest prostitution racket in Delhi. Not just these, police are looking for a mother of eight who takes orders for killing for money... Shocked?
Well, the ladies I am going to tell you about will surely blow your senses. Who would believe that like movies, there are women in real-life, who sell illegal liquor, run gambling hideouts and prostitution rackets?
So how about we have a look at these real-life Bholi Punjabans from Delhi.
Geeta Arora aka Sonu Punjaban ran the biggest prostitution racket in the city. She was arrested on December 24, 2017, after a 13-year-old alleged that Suno beat her, drugged her and forced her into prostitution.
Sonu Punjaban's first husband Vijay Singh was a gangster. He was killed in a police conflict in 2004. Her second husband, Hemant Singh also met the same luck and died in 2006 in an encounter in Gurgaon.
Shakeela runs the biggest gambling dens in east Delhi's Laxmi Nagar. She started as a vegetable seller and is now involved in 21 criminal cases of gambling and illegal liquor.
In 2014, she was prohibited by the then district commissioner from entering Delhi for two years. But Delhi high Court overruled the orders. She has allegations of conducting riots, attempting murders, excise act and smuggling drugs. Her brother, Mannu alias Anees Khan, is wanted in cases of theft, arms act and killing and has a reward of Rs. 50,000 on his head.
One day, Delhi police caught two men on a bike across Kriti Market Nagar snatching cell phones and jewellery. When police arrested the rider, they were shocked to see that the pillion on Pulsar AS 200 motorcycle was a woman. The woman was 32-year-old Ramapreet Kaur aka Rani.
Rani was banished for two years in 2014. She told the police that she took to crime after her husband's arrest in a murder case in 2014. Police had seized seven gold chains, two gold rings, 2 iPhones and 1 Samsung J7 phone, Rs 78,000 cash and silver jewellery from her. She has been committing crimes since 2013 and was arrested 13 times but she got released on bail. Police claim that she is involved in at least 100 cases.
62-year-old Basiran is a native of Rajasthan, and currently, she has charges of extortion, robbery and selling illicit liquor registered against her. This mother of eight kids is on the run along with her husband after she was accused of murder.
She is known as the godmother of one of Delhi's largest criminal families, and was in jail for corruption along with her seven sons, one of whom is a juvenile.
Soon after Basiran came out of jail, she signed a contract of Rs 60,000 for a murder. She even plotted to kidnap a man to arrange money for her son's bail.
She started selling illegal liquor in south Delhi's Sangam Vihar, which is called one of the country's largest unofficial colonies. She is also part of the water mafia as she trades water extracted from illegal borewells.
Saira has a 28-year-old record in the world of crime. She was arrested along with her husband in 2016 for running one of Delhi's massive human trafficking and call girl racket. The couple is accused of trafficking hundreds of women between India and Nepal. She started as a sex worker but then bought the brothel to run her racket.
You will be surprised to know that when police arrested her, they snagged four luxury cars which include an Audi. With over Rs 1 crore in her bank account, she owns three flats in Bengaluru, six kothas at GB Road and a farmhouse in southeast Delhi, and she has managed to earn all of this by trafficking girls and forcing them into prostitution.
It is truly shocking how women are featured in all such activities.
