While India flaunted its military might during the 69th Republic Day celebrations, it was hard to miss India's first ever women bikers' contingent who put on a spectacular show.
It's inspiring how women are breaking all gender stereotypes and opting for male-dominated careers. The unfortunate truth is that even in the most developed countries, we see men holding guns and women are not even considered for the role. This gender barrier has been broken recently by a few countries.
Don't you think women deserve to be allowed in combat roles? Do they not have the right to give up their life for India as much as their male counterparts? Then, let's step back and see how women rightfully deserve to fight for the country.
While the society believes that lack of physical strength is one of the major reasons to keep women away from the combat forces, they often forget how strong women actually are.
A woman bears up to 57 del(units) of pain during childbirth, which is similar to having 20 bones fractured at once. She knows how to bear the pain. She knows how to fight back. She is not afraid of blood.
India has witnessed iconic figures like Indira Gandhi, Bachendri Pal, P.V. Sindhu, Sakshi Malik, Saina Nehwal, Kalpana Chawla, Kiran Bedi and Mary Kom who have made the country proud. Women have proven themselves in every field and will continue to do so. It's time for them to enter the Army in combat roles as well. They know the risks that combat roles carry and are ready to risk their own life to save many others.
If men are considered protectors of the country, why not women? They are just as patriotic, willing to serve, represent and protect their country. Several countries like Australia, Israel, Canada etc. also allow women in combat forces; so why not India?
