Indian government took a big step as Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi announced in Delhi that there will be no subsidy for Haj from this year. According to him, this step is taken by the government to empower minorities without appeasement.
Thanks to Haj subsidy, the Muslims could avail discounts on Air India flight tickets. Also, a special terminal was designated for Haj pilgrims at the airports and they were given allowance for meals, medical care plus a temporary living place.
But now, it all has been withdrawn from devotees who go for Haj pilgrimage.
Soon after the decision came up, we asked Indians via #IndiaKaPuse to share their views.
On this decision of the government, senior Samajwadi Party leader Ram Govind Chaudhary claimed that the BJP government is trying to terrorise the Muslims. He added, "the recent move by the Centre to end Haj subsidy for Muslims is 'daman' (an act of suppression). In Uttar Pradesh and at the Centre, since the formation of the BJP-led governments, facilities being given to Muslims are being snatched one after the other."
