You often see Victorian era women flaunting their stylish long skirts. But you probably have no clue about the secret additional things they wear under their skirts. I can't say if these things were comfortable for them but for us they are utterly weird and fascinating.
Well yeah, they used-shapers.
In the 19th century, women were using these bustles that used to give their waist and butts the perfect hour glass shape.
This is something that women wore under their skirts when they were on their periods. Women began using this way of sanitation after 1800s. Historians do not have any clue about the era before, but it was said that they wore nothing. Women at the day did not talk about the topic openly. But women menstruated less back in the day because most of the time they remain pregnant or under-nourished.
Crotch-less panties are not just a thing of today. It has been used by women since centuries for various reasons. One of which was to get comfortable position over the chamber pot when it was not needed to pull down panties. It was also considered healthy and hygienic as a lady's bits needed proper ventilation.
In early 1800s, women used to like wearing loose and simple dresses which made them walk and move free and comfortable. This cage used to distribute the huge weight of gowns by spreading it around the wearer's waist.
This was something that woman used to wear under their skirts to carry keys and other stuff with them when they would go out. Handbags came into fashion after 1800s, before that dimity pockets were used.
Panniers is one among weird fashion of the day .
In the 18th century, panniers were used as a support structure for women that they used to wear around their waist to make the dress spread out flat and wide. Ladies who belong to wealthy and royal families used to wear panniers inside their dresses though it was too wide to walk through the doors.
Women's panties did not exist until the 1930s. They were never comfortable in this new fashion of 20th century. Women were more comfortable wearing briefs during their menstruation and so they used to wear it once in a month.
