The mutilated body of a 14-year-old girl, who went missing on September 4, was found in Kalcheena village in Modinagar, Uttar Pradesh on last Thursday. The victim, Moonam Yadav, was allegedly raped and later, murdered by five persons from the neighbourhood, who have been arrested.
Her body was found in one of the sugarcane fields near Kalcheena Village in Modinagar, as reported by Nyooz.com. The girl went missing when she was going to the school, when the five men abducted her and took her to the fields.
According to the Indiatimes.com, the girl's father Naresh Yadav, is a vegetable vendor who lived in a rented apartment which belonged to Hari Om Sharma. The landlord befriended the girl, due to which the girl's father had shifted from the apartment four months ago.
"We lodged a missing complaint with Modinagar police station and suspected Sharma, following which he was summoned to the police station. However, he was soon allowed to go because of his connections with a local politician. On September 6, we went with our neighbours to the police station but were shooed away," said the girl's father.
However, the family kept the pressure on officials, post which, Sharma was again called to the police station. Sanjay Verma, SHO, Modinagar police station spoke to the Indiatimes and said "We called the accused on September 11. We checked his phone records and confirmed that he regularly spoke to the girl. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime. He along with four others, identified as Dharmender, Subash, Kapil and Harish, strangled her after luring her to a nearby forest in Kalcheena village."
The police then set out to trace the body and on 14 August discovered the decomposed and severed head of the girl. "Later on Friday, we discovered the torso after which the body has been sent for postmortem. All five have been arrested under sections 302, 201, 120(b), 313, 366 and under POCSO provisions," said Verma.
"Prima facie it was found that there was laxity on the part of the police in handling the case. After conducting an inquiry, concerned officials have been removed and suspended," said H N Singh.
Taking action on the whole incident, SSP Singh has suspended chowki-in charge of Shahbagh Nagar, Sudhir Kumar and removed the SHO of Modinagar police station, Sanjay Verma.
Yet another incident of rape and body mutilation and the Indian society has again proved the horrible ways it deals with its women.
