Doctors Sleep At Shifts And Post Pictures To Support The Med Resident Caught Asleep
Few days back, a Mexican blogger posted a picture of a
medical resident sleeping at 3 am while she was on duty. The post criticized the junior doctor for sleeping and it soon lead to a social media movement where doctors from all around the world started posting pictures of themselves sleeping during their long and tiring shifts at the hospital.
Many doctors around the world work on shifts as long as 36 hours.
This picture was posted by the Mexican blogger.
In the words of the blogger "We are aware that this is a tiring job but doctors are obliged to do their work"
This soon came into notice of the mexican doctor Juan Carlos and he defended the junior doctor on Twitter.
He used the hashtag #YoTambienMeDormi that means I have also fallen asleep.
The hashtag soon started trending and doctors from across the globe started putting pictures of themselves sleeping on night duty.
Doctors usually never complain about the lengthy shifts as they know that it is the best way to learn and expand their knowledge in the field.
But, at the end of the day, they are humans too and need an adequate amount of rest to function properly.
Up till now, around 17,000 people have shown their support for the young doctor on Twitter.
As reported by BBC, the medical resident in the picture is still working at the hospital and no action has been taken against her till now.
