Secret societies are the organizations whose activities, events, and inner functioning are hidden from the non-members. There were many secret societies in the history and conspiracy theories about them. Some secret societies were formed for the welfare of the humankind and some to support the wars. Many of those colonies have become extinct while some societies were successful in maintaining their existence in the world.
These secretly formed societies have contributed a lot in providing the right direction to the world by fighting for the gender discrimination, women and child empowerment. Let's get to know about those secret societies that did not form to differentiate the group of people but to serve some big purposes.
The Hashshashin(origin of the word assassin) was the mysterious band of Muslim assassins that operated in the middle east during the 13th century. The society was formed by Shia Muslims, who got together with the purpose to capture a utopian Shi'ite state. The number of members of the society was small so the group used Guerrilla warfare tactics in the battle against their enemies. The society became well-known contract killer in the history. The Hashshashin was finally eradicated by Mongol Empire in 14th century.
This secret society was formed to protect the rights of the colonists and to fight against taxation by the British government. They are best known for undertaking the Boston Tea Party in 1773 in reaction to new taxes. It was the formal underground organization with well-known members and leaders.
Undergraduate students from Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut built up a powerful society "Skull and Bones" that was informally known as "Bones" and its members were known as "Bonesmen." The society was founded in 1832. There was a dispute between Yale debating societies Linonia, Brothers in Unity and the Calliopean Society over Phi Beta Kappa awards. Skull and Bones receives a mention in the global conspiracies that aimed to dominate and rule the world in the past.
During the American civil war, the Golden Circle Society was established. Before the war began, the group encouraged the occupation of Mexico and The West Indies. But, once the Civil War started, the members of the society switched their focus from their group to support the newly formed government.
Knights of the Golden Circle was one among those secret societies that were ruined by its members. The society did not concern in its mysterious plans and failed to meet their goal to invade Mexico.
The Black Hand was formed in Serbia on 9 May 1911 by army officers in Serbia. It was formed with the aim of uniting all of the territories with a South Slavic majority which was not ruled by either Serbia or Montenegro.
Elders of Zion was the secret society of Jews which was exposed in 1920 by a newspaper owned by industrialist Henry Ford. The name of the society was mentioned in the book "The international Jew." Adolf Hitler was influenced by it and appreciated many of its ideas.

The improved order of red men found its origin from some certain secret patriotic societies formed before the American Revolution. The colony was established to promote liberty and to defy the dictatorship of the English crown. The native Americans follow their rituals even at the present. It was founded on December 16, 1773, the secret society protested the tax on tea imposed by England. Throughout the Revolutionary War, members of the Red Men joined the Continental Army to defy the English crown.
The Knights of the Golden Eagle society was founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 1873 with the objective of a welfare of the human kinds. It has 20,000 members from 20 states actively worked for unemployed, physical or mental handicaps, widows and orphans. The president of the society was William McKinley. He maintained the social, moral and intellectual feelings in its members and promoted their welfare.
The existence of KGE was ended up by one of its members who assassined the President William McKinley. During world war-II, the members of society left it, making it gradually extinct. Historians found that Knights of the Golden Eagle was one of the secret societies that had many members around the world before WWII.
