Life is wonderful, we should find every excuse to appreciate it. We should count every blessing we have because we just never know when it can be taken away, like the blessing of life, which could be one misplaced wire away from being taken away from someone. Sometimes we need to look back and see just how lucky we are that not only we are healthy but also so far, we've avoided any kind of a major mishap that could've changed out the life for the worse. Unfortunately for these Indian sportspersons, that cannot be said.
India is a nation with a rich sporting history and culture but it isn't full of red stains. As previously mentioned, a misplaced step, a misplaced wire could turn someone's life for the worse and it did. In fact, these people lost their lives playing their respective sport.
So we at WittyFeed would like to honor Vishal Kumar Verma (the Indian athlete who recently passed away) and remember three other such Indian athletes who lost their lives to tragic on-field incidents.
Vishal Kumar Verma, a national level wrestler tragically lost his life in Ranchi owing to a freak incident. The 25-year-old stood fourth in the last senior national wrestling championship.
According to a report in The Telegraph, the wrestler was electrocuted when a loose wire hanging from above in the flooded bathroom, made contact with the water and electrocuted him. The state wrestling association has announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh for Vishal's family. Now that we've looked at this tragic accident, let's take a look at other four people who lost their lives.
Raman Lamba was someone who arrived in style scoring a century and two fifties vs Australia in 1986-87 but he never lived up to his promise and soon found himself playing in Dhaka's Premier League. On February 20, 1998, the fatal moment happened.
Lamba was fielding at the forward short-leg when the batsman hit the ball with brute force which smashed his forehead and went straight at the hands of the keeper. At that moment, Lamba was conscious to pick himself up and rush to the dressing room. He told his teammates he wasn't feeling well and three days after being rushed to the hospital, his family asked doctors to switch off life support and then he was pronounced dead.
Unlike Lamba, Keshri couldn't realize his dream to wear the blue stripes of India but to his credit, we'd like to say that he was near to it. He was a former captain of a Under-19 team, unfortunately losing his life owing to a freak collision on the pitch.
Keshri collided with his team-mate Sourabh Mondal while attempting to take a catch and was rushed to hospital after he stopped breathing briefly. He was rushed to the hospital and a few days later lost his life to a sudden cardiac arrest.
Indeed an unfortunate incident.
Peter Biaksangzuala was an Indian footballer who tragically lost his life playing in the Mizoram Premier League.
Peter was trying a front flip celebration, a celebration which has been popularized by the record goal scorer in FIFA World Cup's Miroslav Klose when he hurt himself. While attempting so, he injured his spine and from there on, his condition only worsened.
Peter suffered fatal injuries to his spine and although the doctors tried their best to keep him alive, they couldn't do so and hence Peter tragically lost his life. Although there was one final act of nobility before his passing away as he asked the doctors to donate his eyes in the event he dies.
We at WittyFeed would like to offer our condolences and prayers to the affected families.
