"Be a girl with a mind, a woman with attitude and a lady with class."
Well, being a woman of 25 years of age in India is a mix of struggles, facilities, opportunities, challenges, transformations and hard lessons. This is not a piece where I will be belittling the Indians for what their perceptions are. This will be only a revelation of what it is like to be a 25-year-old woman in India. No criticising, only a portrayal.
This will be an interesting read, for it will give you an insight, making you realise your place in her life. But one thing is final that she always tries to think in a positive way, for it is in her blood. She tries her best to adjust to the world around.
She makes all the possible attempts to see people around her happy and in the meanwhile, not lose her confidence in the bargain. Right from being up in the morning to dozing off in the night, there are challenges, there are hurdles and here, I do not want to portray her as a super woman or as someone who is able to perform all her duties with flying colours.
Just take this as a sketch of her day.
Thinking of making it big in the day. Hoping to achieve all that is desired of her, by her and by those around her. Nothing gives her more freshness than a simple hot cup of coffee to sip and receiving some cool breeze on her face.
Yes, she doesn't wish to check her 'smartphone' the moment she wakes up. She wants some time for herself, some freedom.
Owing to the duties to be fulfilled by her. She tries to capture some moments for her in the meantime. From admiring herself in the mirror to planning for the day (only if she can have a clear picture of it). All these things give her the strength to deal with adversities.
And not to forget the incessant mood swings that she undergoes.
Contrary to what is perceived as a long lost hobby of modern Indian women, she does enjoy cooking, savouring different flavours and seeing that others enjoy the food she cooks. She loves to see people licking their fingers after eating food cooked by her.
She can concentrate more on her work giving greater inputs. She may have just begun her married life, or she may be a single woman. This is the time when there are comparatively fewer family responsibilities on her shoulders.
Every now and then she is a victim of judgements of people around her, who are eyeing every action of hers and prying her. She tries her best to pay no heed to them. But somehow, people prod, make comments. This makes her pessimistic, at times.
Gosh! She is bombarded with all the horrifying thoughts, ranging from her gaining weight to thinking of the extra miles she will have to run later in the day to being fat-shamed. She thinks about what she will have have to undergo if she eats to her heart's content.
She thinks of planning for her evening, every day, but only to get disappointed to perform tasks at hand. Despite this, she does not give up and looks forward to getting the me-time late at night. She wishes to unwind with her school and college buddies only to discover that they are busy with their life too. They are nearly or even more occupied than her.
Phew! Such is her day till evening.
Anyhow, she will tune into her favourite tunes, ranging from metal to jazz to EDM or even the desi Bollywood beats. She does not give a discount on this and will try all that she can to hum to her favourite tunes.
'Cause she believes that if she smiles, the world smiles with her. But, what saddens her at the same time is the feeling of helplessness that she feels, when she wants to bring a small change in the society.
When she wants the males around her, to not eye her assets, when she is there to help the needy with her sweet gestures, when she has to give incessant explanations for her deeds (even when she feels she is right). And nothing disappoints her more than the doubt that people have on her.
Why do they not realise that she is 25 years old now? She is an adult!
Huh, thanks to how unsatisfactory the day was for her. She gets her hands on her gadgets, scrolls the social media, reads a little here and there, analyses her day, thinks what she has to do the next day, tries to count the time she spent with herself, tries to figure out the changes she wants in her life, thinks of solutions to her problems.
Phew! There's a lot, there, too!

And with this, she finds herself too tired to be up and gradually melts into the sleep... Only to wake a happier self!
