Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed three years in office last month. The policies and changes he has introduced will always over weigh what the opposition or his critics have to say.
I'm not taking any side but just looking at the brighter side of Modi government. We will not discuss all his policies here. We'll focus on Indian Railways.
In last three years, Indian Railways have introduced many new features to make passengers' journey more comfortable. The features like pay-on-delivery (COD for IRCTC tickets on your doorstep) and 'Buy now, Pay later' (book and pay for the ticket in the coming 14 days) have received good response.
Another feature is Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train. The project will cost Rs 1 lakh crore. This E5 series Shinkansen Japanese high-speed bullet train will run on the high-speed corridor between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
Let's go through all the 14 facts you may not be aware of.
The train, which will be run on the special rail tracks between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, will be covering a distance of 508-km in merely 2 hours and 7 minutes, precisely. And, if you're wondering then the fastest train which covers the same distance on the same track is Adi Duronto Exp. It covers the distance in 5 hours and 25 minutes.
As per the plan, the government has approved to spend approximately Rs 5,000 crore to purchase 25 bullet trains from Japan. This means, one bullet train will cost Rs 200 crore.
The construction of the bullet train corridor will start in 2018 and it is expected that the train services will start in 2023, as per News Crunch.
Also, the entire project has been estimated with an expenditure of Rs 1 Lakh Crore, which is supposedly three times the health budget of the country. Even it surpasses the annual education budget as told by ABP.
More than 200 trains are running on the Mumbai-Ahemdabad route, at present. The high-speed bullet train will have 10 coaches.
...For business class. Don't worry, it isn't that compact. The train will have only two kinds of seats - standard and business. The train will have 698 standard seats.
There will be no luggage space in compartments meant for the standard class. The business class compartments will have luggage space, though.
The train will be first of a kind to have wall-mounted urinals for men and separate toilets for women. India Times quoted that they will be in alternate coaches, meaning coach number 2,4,6,8 may have the urinals and the rest will have toilets.
Those who cannot stay without their makeup on, wouldn't have to worry when travelling in one of these. The train will come with triple mirrors so you can do your makeup properly.
It appears that the E5 series Shinkansen Japanese high-speed bullet will be nothing less than a 5-star hotel. The bathrooms will be equipped with hot water and even washing closet.
Children travelling in the bullet train will also have the feel of luxury. They'll be getting low sinks in the restrooms to wash their hands.
There will be facilities for infants as well. There will be specific rooms for mothers to change their babies' diapers. They will be equipped with baby-friendly seats and have disposals for diapers.
The train will have special or multi-utility rooms too, where a mother can feed her child or a sick person can rest.
The train will have an array of bathrooms. They will have 2 extra-spacious toilets for the physically challenged or wheelchair-bound people.
