Sparsh Shah has had a tough life. The 13-year old kid was born with 40 fractures in his body. That means he was born with a broken body. He has till now had 140 fractures due to a rare condition called Osteogenesis Imperfecta, which makes his bones extremely brittle. When he touches something with pressure, his bones break instantly. Like playing with a piano! He stopped playing piano just because his bones would break every time he would play.
Yet, this little kid has become a worldwide inspiration and a musical phenomenon. This kid surely knows how to turn liabilities into assets. Nothing is impossible in the world, Sparsh has proven that with style and panache.
Just think over it, what are our problems compared to him? Nothing really! We have our professional and personal problems, but do these problems really matter when compared to 140 broken bones in a 13-year old body? So, why do we cry about our broken hearts and lost love? Life has several, other big challenges.
Sparsh Shah is based in New Jersey and gave an astonishing speech in December 2016 at TED Talks in Mumbai, on how to turn impossible into I'm possible. He talked with great clarity and zeal, inspiring many. Sparsh has accepted that he can't run or walk like other kids, but he can do something which other can never do. He also spoke to Indiatimes.com that he has a deeper understanding of life than others. That's doing the impossible.
According to Indiatimes, Sparsh spoke at TED talk "So, what you just heard were some of the eleven longest words in the English dictionary. Such complex words, right? Well, just as these words are complex, so has my own life been, and although seemingly difficult things such as memorising long complex words and numbers are simple for me, seemingly simple things such as standing and bearing weight are impossible for me."
When People.com approached him, he said, "I've gone through my share of rough spots in life, but I don't let it get to me." Sparsh, an eighth grader at Iselin Middle School, USA also said, "I want to show people that no matter what happens in your life, you should never ever give up on your passion, and mine is singing and creating music!"
The 15-minute long TED talk about following your passion, and helping others concluded with Shah's now-famous musical number – his cover of Eminem's 2010 track Not Afraid. Shah had released a desi cover of the song in January 2016, which went viral, with over 55 million views. Even Eminem's label, Shady Records, tweeted about the cover!
Listen to it, it's beautiful.
Currently Sparsh is getting trained in both Indian Classical and Western music. He goes by the name Purhythm, a mix of Pure and Rhythm. He has also invented a new genre which is called RagaRap, a fusion of both Raga And Rap!
"None of this would ever have happened if I had not dreamt big. But my ultimate goal as a musician is still to perform in front of a billion people one day. I want to leave my footprints, or rather track prints, into the sand of legacies so deep not even a tsunami can erase it," Shah told Scroll. Add a Grammy award to that list. His real dream is to "sparsh (meaning touch in Hindi) everyone's hearts all over the world."
Way to go, kid! You have truly proven that nothing is impossible.
