The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India's highest award in cinema. It is presented annually at the National Film Awards ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals, an organisation set up by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The Directorate of Film Festivals is the organisation which honours the recipients with the award which includes Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medallion, a shawl and cash of Rs 10 lakh.
Stand-up comedian Kapil Sharma has been chosen for 2017 Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award, according to the DNA media sources.
Kapil Sharma had received this award in 2014 for his exceptional comedy skills. But he had to collect it backstage because he had reached late to the award show.
Kapil has been a part of several controversies lately due to his clashes with his former co-actors like Sunil Grover who performed in his comedy show - The Comedy Nights With Kapil. As a result, the show's popularity had declined steadily.
The award function will be held in Mumbai on June 1, 2017, and reportedly, the actor-cum-stand-up comedian will be receiving his second Academy Award.
Hopefully, he'll be a little more careful to reach on time to receive his award. In 2014, he was so late that his award was handed over to him by the stage coordinator. But, why waste your time talking about his past now?
The committee which will select the recipients of the award includes Central Board of Film Certification Chairman Pahlaj Nihalani, film actors Mithun Chakraborty, Johnny Lever and film producer T P Aggarwal.
This year, they decided to include a new category "Internationally Acclaimed Actress", for the first time and it comes as no surprise who would that be but you'll have to check the next image in order to know that.
The Baywatch star, Priyanka Chopra, is supposedly the next recipient in line to receive Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award this year under the category of 'Internationally Acclaimed Actress'. The award is given to eminent personalities for their contribution to the Indian film industry.

Film actors Suresh Oberoi and his son Vivek will also receive an award under a special category, according to Shirke.
