Back in 2001, actress Sharon Stone had a stroke and as a result of this suffered a ruptured aneurysm and cerebral bleeding that lasted nine days. The long-term effects of all this included impaired speech, an inability to read and limping. However, she managed to overcome her afflictions and starred in movies again less than five years later. After beating her ailments, Sharon set out to help and support people who are seriously ill and in 2013 she received the Nobel Peace Summit Award for her great contributions to charity.
In 2014 Ben Stiller was diagnosed with prostate cancer. After having surgery to remove his prostate, Ben is now cancer free and supports 25 organizations, including the Cancer Research Institute and the Cancer Patient Support Foundation.
Michael J. Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1991 but did not let it stand in his way. He went on to continue his brilliant acting career and received numerous awards in the process. The main goal in Michael's life is to help fight and find a cure for Parkinson's disease; so much so that he has even started a fund worth $450 million in order to research a cure.
Julia Roberts suffers from Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura which is a disease that affects the human body's ability to stop bleeding. She also has numerous other ailments, for example being blind in the one eye. However, nothing has ever stood in her way, and she is a successful actress, mother and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
The award-winning singer suffers from lupus; an autoimmune disease which causes the immune system to attack healthy cells in the sufferers' body. Despite her disease, Toni continues making music, and in her spare time, she helps others suffering from this awful disease. Way to go, Toni!

A few years ago, Angelina Jolie tested positive for the BRCA cancer-causing gene. Since her mom died of cancer, Angelina decided to undergo a double mastectomy as a preventative and precautionary measure against cancer. After Angelina Jolie's surgery, a study conducted in Austria went on to show that her (Jolie's) actions drastically increased worldwide awareness of genetic cancer testing and treatment!

In the year 2005, Kylie Minogue was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to undergo a partial mastectomy to remove the malignant tumor. Since then she has spent a fortune raising cancer awareness and because of her, millions of women the world over have begun to undergo regular cancer screenings. Because of her contributions to the fight against cancer, Kylie was awarded an honorary Doctorate in/of Health Sciences.
