The temperature of Hyderabad city recently went up to 42-degree celsius. While most of the people in white collar jobs stay in air-conditioned rooms, the traffic police force has to stand in the scorching summer heat and do their duty.
Asian Institute of Nephrology recently took the initiative towards helping Hyderabad Police by making a jacket which will help in lowering the temperature around the body from 6 to 12 degrees. The effect will last for 3 - 5 hours and also will depend on the humidity in the outer environment.
The traffic police will just have to dip the jacket in water, squeeze it, and wear it as explained by the A. Ravinder, Joint Commissioner of Traffic Police. Apart from preventing the adverse effects of heat waves, the jacket will also serve many other purposes which were told at the press conference held on May 25, Monday.
The police have bought 200 jackets for now which were sponsored by the Asian Institute of Nephrology. The Institute has a Corporate Social Responsibility program going on, and the initiative was taken as a part of it, to help cope the intense heat faced by the workforce of Hyderabad's traffic police. The force will be wearing a reflective vest over it for being visible to the drivers during the night.
Not only heat, but the jacket is designed to check heart rate elevation, thermal, and cardiovascular strain. The jacket will also help the user to stay hydrated, enhance tolerance level and cut down the overall exertion. In the words of Joint Commissioner as quoted by TOI - "The product is very simple to use dip, squeeze, wear. The uniqueness of the product keeps the wearer dry even after dipping in water, if we feel that the 200 jackets are found to be useful, we will purchase more jackets for the remaining force in traffic wing".
Apart from summer, if the vest is not soaked in water then will help in winters too, to keep the wearer warm.
