Umer Fayaz, an Indian army officer from the Rajputana Rifles, was abducted from a relative's house and then murdered by terrorists. Ummer, 22, was away from duty to attend his cousin's wedding.
A section of local residents conveyed about his presence to the terrorists who kidnapped him and shot him brutally. The body of Umer was found the next morning, that is, on May 10, 2017. His body was covered with bullets.
Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz belonged to the region which has seen constant unrest in last two decades due to the presence of terrorists.
Umer, a resident of Shopia, Kashmir, always supported peace which made him join the Indian army. His father wanted him to become a pilot but he chose to be an army officer.
It was his first leave, which he took for attending a cousin's wedding. He had joined Indian army five months ago.
