On May 26, 2014, honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi became incumbent. Merely after 5 months, he initiated Swachh Bharat campaign which over the time proved to be the most talked topic in the entire nation. As Bill Gates said, no world leader had ever thought of what Modi Ji started and has seen a tremendous growth in the same.
The campaign has been nothing short of a competition in the 29 states of India. Mysore was declared as the cleanest city last year and *drumrolls* recently Indore became a part of the league. It was ranked as No.1 city in cleanliness in the Swachh Survekshan 2017 among 434 of the competing cities. If that isn't enough appealing for you, the city got past its own state's capital along with last year's winning city Mysore (5th this year); don't forget to see the Top 10 list at the end of the page.
The news has created a buzz since the announcement and people going frenzy after knowing the same asking questions all over the internet as to how is Indore so clean? To which we thought of compiling a 7 point story for you telling why Indore deserves to be awarded as the cleanest city and how did the people of Indore keep it clean.
If you've been to Indore, then you know that Poha is the standard trademark for a breakfast there. Generally served on a paper plate, but the dustbins kept at every place, in reach of the public everywhere; makes it possible for people to keep the surroundings clean.
There are cities with those mini-trucks going all over the city to collect the city garbage but when it comes to the people of Indore, they voluntarily come out of their homes and shops to help the Nagar Nigam to keep the city clean.
There have been talks about the change in parameters of sanitation ranking from the last year. Another reason why Indore topped the list because of the relentless efforts put by Parikipandla Narahari (Collector) and Malini Gaud (Mayor) of Indore.
Apart from that, because of Swachh Bharat, there were a lot many toilets installed all over the city. One of the many reasons which brought Indore's ranking to the top, because 45% weightage was given to cities fulfilling the grounds of open defecation free and solid waste management.
State also played a big role in playing the song "Swachh Bharat Ka Iraada" which was played in a way that every household pays heed and cleanliness becomes a force of habit. And, when education and capacity building were also considered by the spectators; Indore stood out marvelously.
And of course, the ''Halla Halla'' song that these vehicles kept playing on the loudspeakers helped the city stay aware of its responsibilities throughout the campaign.
As one of the fastest growing educational hub, Indore is full of students. When education is all about improving your lifestyle, a city full of students finally made sure that the city helping them with studies should stand out otherwise what sense would their education make.
The natives of the place, yes a big round of applause for the people who played a major role in making their city win the title. Not only did they use all the facilities provided by the government to keep the city clean but when 30% marks for citizen feedback was set as criteria for assessing 2017's ranking, trust me you can never win against an Indori in defending Indore.
As stated earlier, the list clearly shows Bhopal, (the capital of M.P.) at No.2 and Indore bypassing it at No.1. Kudos! Indoris.
