The God of cricket is all set to take the ground again! And this time we are in no mood to joke. Sachin is really coming back and his fans are again up for a fantabulous batting treat. Let us waste no time and know more about this pleasant surprise!
Saaaachin, Sachin! Saaaaachin, Sachin! With the huge Indian population and NRIs residing in West Indies, we are sure to hear this again! And how would the commentary go? "Here's an in-swinger by the bowler, might go between bat and pad and lo, it's a boundary. The masterclass straight drive by Sachin and the stadium has gone berserk!!! It's a bouncer, and here's Sachin's trademark hook shot over the third man. What a shot! Beauty!"
The thunderous clapping when Sachin goes to bat. The standing ovation when the God goes back to the pavilion. The loud roar with every boundary, the pin drop silence when the God gets out. The thrill is endless. The roar is deafening. The drives are beautiful. No word would suffice the God of Cricket. Can we define God? No!
The legendary Brian Lara will play against Sachin and both will lead their respective teams (Lara XI vs Sachin XI). The occasion is the official opening of Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Tarouba (Trinidad) a tiny island in West Indies known for its beach parties, music and cricket. The stadium was supposed to be completed in 2008 but due to financial and logistic hassles, it's finally ready in 2017. Some relief that infrastructural projects just don't get delayed in India! :)
The Caribbeans have a similar craze for Lara what we have for Sachin. Lara is the national celebrity of West Indies, and the group of islands is so crazy about Lara that his popularity soars that of their Prime Ministers and Presidents! A score of 500 in First Class Cricket, 400 & 375 in International Test Matches, the feat is just beyond comprehension.
Expect a full house when the legends play together, and show their wizardry to the world. "The teams will consist of both national and international players and the match will be broadcasted throughout the world,' said the Sports Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Daryl Smith. The Sports Ministry is working closely with Brain Lara to make the opening match a runabout success.
Lara and Tendulkar have enjoyed very good repertoire on the field and we hope to see the same on the field once again. When the fabulous cover drives of Lara mix up with the marvellous straight drives of Tendulkar, what do we call it? Heaven on earth? Again, the words are not going to suffice. Some things are just beyond words. Just watch them bat and enjoy the moment.
One of the most controversial stadiums of Trinidad for the reason it took 10 more years to be completed, and the cost overran that of 500 million TT dollars to 850 TT Dollars. The stadium was supposed to be a multi-purpose but eventually it will serve cricket only. The stadium has both grass banks and seating with a capacity of 20,000. Hope the stadium will serve its purpose and develop cricket in West Indies.
For the time being we are more interested in watching Tendulkar and Lara play their trademark strokes.
