"Dhoni is the best captain I've played under": Sachin Tendulkar
This story that I'm writing today is not dedicated to MSD's fans, followers or admirers.
I write to you, dear anti-MSD clan members, who would go to any extent, just to underrate this man. To downgrade his achievements and to trivialize his sacrifices.
Being a die hard MSD fan, I understand that there is absolutely nothing new, which I can tell you that you wouldn't already know! This man who hails from Ranchi is loved by not only Indians but from people across the globe. Not just fans but some of the greatest cricketers of all time are his aficionado and that my friend speaks volumes about his character. His fan fanatic is global.
But you, why should you believe what my mind and heart say? So brace yourselves, because I'm now going to state some facts that will undoubtedly prove what a prodigious man Mahendra Singh Dhoni is.
After a hard-fought ODI series against the Proteas, Dhoni took out time from his busy schedule and attended a special children's charity show held in Pune, where he was seen mixing with the physically and mentally challenged children who participated in a cultural show.
So exactly how many of us can do this? Miss out on our first child's birth, leave our better half in the hospital and not even be in the same country as them.
To quote the man himself, "I am on national duties, so everything else can wait."
You will come across many successful cricketers who would give the credits for their success to MSD. To quote one of them, "If you want to learn batting, bat with Dhoni" - Ravindra Jadeja
Not only youngsters but the seniors are his devotees too. "I would go to war with Dhoni by my side" - Gary Kirsten
He is the only Indian cricket team captain in the history of Indian cricket to have led his country towards victory in all the major ICC tournaments: 20-20 World Cup(2007), 50 over World Cup(2011) and the Champion's Trophy(2013).
MSD is the only captain in the history of One Day International matches to have hit a century playing at the 7th position. He scored this century against Pakistan in December 2012.
The former Indian Cricket Team captain was honored with the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel by the Indian Territorial Army in November 2011. Mahi has time and again, expressed his desire to play some role in the Indian army and be a part of it.
Mahi has already played 90 test matches and was only 10 matches short of a personal record of 100 test matches. Only 10 other Indian cricketers had accomplished this before him. And Dhoni had the clear chance to be the 11th, but he never cared about personal records or benchmarks. His country was always on the highest priority for him, over himself and his family. He came in, he saw, he conquered, and when the right time came, he left, very selflessly.
No worries, watch this video, and we shall see your stand then.
And, oh! Keep some tissues ready.
