Some love stories look beautiful from a distance but crumble at the slightest sign of a problem. But some go on to become legendary and give us serious relationship goals.
Here's one such story of a couple who have survived through thick and thin and continue to live by their wedding vows of "in sickness and in health", truly. I am in awe of this couple and look up to them for some inspiration on how not to give up on each other ever.
The story was originally shared on imgur.com.
The couple tied the knot on April 12, 1997. She was 21 and he was 23 at the time.
Their married life was smooth for the first three years but life had other plans for them.
On October 11, 2000, the couple met with a life-altering car accident.
The accident made her undergo numerous surgeries over the next fifteen years. Her lower right leg had to be amputated but the ordeal didn't end there.
The couple had decided not to have a baby but her body clock demanded something more from her. She convinced her husband and after a lengthy discussion, they decided on adding another member to the family.
They say that a child adds to the happiness of the family but in this case, the baby added to their already challenging life. Their daughter was born with low muscle tone and suffers from Apraxia of Speech. She is on the spectrum of Autism and is a child with special needs. But they love her to the core and are glad to see her making good progress.
This is a picture taken by their daughter a few years ago. Those smiles hide a world of pain under! This picture was taken after this gorgeous woman underwent a partial hysterectomy to have her gall bladder removed.
Look at that family selfie they took a couple of years ago. Don't they look beautiful together?
This is a recent picture of the couple, clicked on April 12, 2017. They look such a happy couple still.
Life hasn't yet stopped testing them. She was experiencing severe headaches almost daily and a month back was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation, a congenital defect in her skull. She will be consulting a neurosurgeon next month and it is possible that she would be advised a brain surgery.
Her husband never left her side and stands tall with her, come what may. She feels overweight, old, and handicapped (one leg amputated) but her husband still finds her as beautiful as she was on the day they met. He still sees her as his wife and best friend!
She adds, "Life has thrown a LOT at two innocent kids from a couple of small towns with the world at their feet. When he said "I do," he didn't know that meant terrifying accidents, massive injuries, a child with special needs that we were completely unprepared for, brain surgery, and so, so many things too numerous to list here."
The couple is still going strong after spending 20 years together and surfing the waves of challenges at every step. That is what true love is all about!
"It lets you see the person you fell in love with, lets you love the person they've become, and motivates you to work harder than you've ever worked in your life, every moment of every day, to keep that love strong and true", says she.
Isn't their love story truly inspiring and beautiful? If you are as fortunate as these two to have found your soul mate who will never leave your side, then let us know in the comments below.
