Jared Kushner was born to Charles Kushner, a real estate icon who founded Kushner Companies in 1985 and built it into a billion-dollar enterprise. Jared is currently serving as the senior advisor to the President of the United States Donald Trump who also happens to be his father-in-law. His transition from real state to the political center of the world has been a topic of debate throughout.
According to media reports, Kushner was a major force behind Trump's presidential campaign. He was the one who defended Donald Trump when opposition called him an anti-semitic and a racist.
Jared Kushner is appointed as the head of New Office of Innovation. According to CNN, Jared's job will also include fulfilling key campaign promises made by President Trump during his run. Media outlets have reported this new Office of Innovation as a "Swat team" which comprises of former private sector executives. It is expected from them to turn in profits as a corporate house. Kushner is expected to provide major business strategies to the government departments.
He will have the jurisdiction to reform federal bureaucracy which was a major campaign promise of Mr. Trump. He will also look after privatizing specific services. It is expected for Jared Kushner to work with a selected group of officials and business people. Their primary focus might be on areas such as veteran care and drug addiction.
Jared Kushner will report directly to the President. This decision by President Trump is already gathering a lot of heat as it comes at a time when several government departments are subjected to sweeping cuts in the budget. Most of the members who have been reported to be a part of this new office of innovation are inexperienced in the political arena. They are supposedly going to work to increase department efficiency.
Donald Trump has been a businessman all his life and he made it very clear during his campaign that he will turn things as they do in business. Kushner and President Trump are trying to bridge the gap between the corporate sector and the White House and have already hosted several meetings with business executives of different sectors. This new office is also expected to focus on technology and data. It is reported that they will collaborate with leaders such as Microsoft head Bill Gates, Apple chief Tim Cook, and Tesla founder Elon Musk. All these names are the pioneer in their fields and Mr. Trump is trying to use their expertise to achieve an output and for this job, he has appointed Jared Kushner.
Some media reports also suggest that Kushner's wife and President Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump will also be involved but she is going to stick with her status of unpaid and unofficial at the White House. She is already considered a part of her father's inner circle. Questions about conflict of interest are expected to arise from this move of President Trump.
This announcement for the Office of Innovation comes at a strange time for President Trump considering the collapse of his new healthcare plan which was supposed to repeal and replace Obamacare. This was President Trump's first major legislative push after taking the office.
During a recent interview in his White House office, Jared Kushner said "We should have excellence in government. The government should be run like a great American company. Our hope is that we can achieve successes and efficiencies for our customers, who are the citizens." Kushner has started this new deal with great ambitions and it is not going to be a smooth road for him to fulfill all the promises of Mr. Trump considering his popularity in the administration.
Jared Kushner has been informally working with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie for past several weeks on the drug issue. President Trump is expected to announce a new official drug commission focusing on opioid abuse which will function under the leadership of Chris Christie. These decisions by President Trump have raised questions of favoritism in his working policy and certainly, the appointment of Jared Kushner will be looked with the same view.
Several business leaders are excited with this decision of Mr. Trump while others are raising questions as well. Chief Executive and Chairman of IBM, Ginni Rometty said she is encouraged: "Jared is reaching out and listening to leaders from across the business community - not just on day-to-day issues, but on long-term challenges like how to train a modern workforce and how to apply the latest innovations to government operations."
With this decision from President Trump, the speculations regarding the role of Jared Kushner have been cleared. He will continue to be a senior advisor to the President with a focus on the relationship with Mexico, China, The Middle East and Canada. As the head of Office of Innovation Kushner is going to take huge responsibility of turning the Washington DC as the business hub for the government.
