On her Facebook page, Mariana Harrison had the following to say: "My dad gave me this advice a long time ago when I moved into my first apartment. He even came out and changed the screws for me as soon as I moved in. Someone else recently posted about it and I thought I should share!"

In keeping with the good advice above offered by Ms Harrison, I would like to add that other simple safety tips include the installation of a steel or solid wood door (as opposed to a hollow wood door) as your primary front door, as well as never leaving any keys 'hidden' under pots, mats or on the top of your door frame, as these are the first places that burglars think to look for them.
