Director James Gunn was willing to offer Chris Pratt the role within thirty seconds of the audition, and even joked that he would put a CGI six pack on Pratt if he failed to get in shape on time.

After Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista rehearsed their original scripted fight scene for two and a half months. They were in for a shock, when the Friday before they were scheduled to film the scene, Director James Gunn decided he wanted the entire fight to be filmed in one long shot. The two only had a few hours to master the choreography, which finally took twenty-two takes.
