But then, how can you know whether or not they're alive?
We'll see the indications that tell us how to differentiate between a dead sand dollar, and an alive one.
Or is it dead? Let's go through the demonstration to figure this out.
The first indication is the color. Dead sand dollars are often yellowish-green in color.
One can also notice a sort of cracks on the edges.
One can note that a dead sand dollar has a hardened body with grooves that lead to a hole in the middle of its body.
A living sand dollar is almost blackish-purple in colour. They also have a flowery sort of pattern on the edges.
A living sand dollar has bristles on its bottom side, and when we look closer, we can see that the bristles are actually moving! Now that's the ultimate proof that the sand dollar is alive!
