There has always been a healthy rivalry between Marvel and DC comics. And the current movie scenario revolves around these two comic entertainment giants. Some consider the comics as better entertainment than the movies but some of the movies have done great justice to them in return.
Despite the rivalries between these two comic brands, actors have switched themselves from one to the other. The dominant and money making capabilities of superhero movies have attracted not only the audience but also artists. Everyone is interested in doing a Marvel or DC movie. Who wouldn't be? It's one of the most popular movie brands in the industry till date.
Some actors have managed themselves so wonderfully that we have witnessed them playing two superheroes in two different comic brands. And they have delivered their roles perfectly.
So here is the list of thespians who have switched from one brand of the comic to another.
Weaving starred alongside Natalie Portman as V in the DC Comic movie V for Vendetta. He delivered his performance behind the mask. V tries to ignite a revolution and portrays an anarchist freedom fighter. This was the first time he played a comic book character.
He again covered his face, but this time it was for Marvel's Captain America: The First Avenger. He played the role of Red Skull, a Hydra leader. His performance was classic and evil.
James Marsden jumped into comic book movies from a movie franchise which was created to be a hit series X-Men. Well, he portrayed Cyclops in three X-Men films. Though the third film of the franchise was the last one for him, he surely gave his best because going against Wolverine is not an easy task.
He then jumped to DC comic movie The Superman Returns (2006) where he played Richard White. This was not a superhero role, but he portrayed the role of Superman's ex-girlfriend's husband.
Elba played a badass character named Roque in DC comic movie The Losers. He was shown as an expert in detonating and detecting explosives.
He then played the role of Heimdall in Thor series which is a Marvel comic movie. His character was quite compelling though some people criticized his selection by saying that "Heimdall can not be black" but we did enjoy his stellar performance.
Tommy Lee Jones may be known for his role in The Fugitive, but the actor has also played characters in biggest comic brands. His first role was of Two-Face in DC's Batman Forever. His character was funny and memorable.
He then came back to superhero films but not with DC. He played the role of Captain Chester Philips in Captain America: The First Avenger. Jones as always delivered an excellent performance.
Natalie played the role of Evey in V for Vendetta which is a DC property. Critics highly appreciated her role. In the movie, she joined V to battle against the fascist regime.
She returned to superhero genre after six years. She played the role of Thor's girlfriend in 2011. Portman was also seen in the sequel. But she will not be considered in the upcoming Thor movie.
Many years before Will Smith played the character of Agent J in Men in Black which is an obscure comic book movie of Marvel. Smith's chemistry was excellent with co-star Tommy Lee Jones in a film that was an entertaining blockbuster.
But now, everyone knows that he is in DC adaption. He recently played Deadshot in the movie Suicide Squad. He won several hearts with his strong performance of an assassin with a soft heart. Many people including me can't wait to see him in future DC installments.
Irish-born actor Michael Fassbender played the character of Burke, a villain in 2010 DC film Jonah Hex. His role was highly appreciated by critics and also the audience.
However, Fassbender is known for playing Magneto in the X-Men trilogy which started with 2011's First Class. In fact, we all loved his role, the way he depicted metal manipulating mutant was spectacular. After following Sir Ian Mckellan as Magneto was a tough task, but Fassbender did prove his acting skill with a memorable performance.
Chris Evans as Jenson played a supporting actor role in The Losers which was DC Vertigo comic film, but we all probably know him as Captain Steve Rogers. He has played that role in every subsequent Captain America film. He is doing that role with perfection, and we'll probably see him continuing in the franchise.
Ryan Reynolds is one of the finest examples of actors jumping from one comic book brand movie to another. Ryan first appeared in Marvel's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. After that, he dropped to play the role of Green Lantern which is a DC comic movie.
Ryan was not done, he then again came back to Marvel to play the role which he was born to depict, Deadpool. The movie was successful, and due to Ryan's charm, we are guaranteed for the film's sequel.
In early days when superhero movies were in a boom, Affleck jumped in the genre by depicting the lead role in Daredevil. The 2003 Marvel superhero film did well at the box office but got mixed reviews from critics.
Many years later Affleck got a chance for redemption in comic book movies. He was signed to play Bruce Wayne in the highly anticipated film Batman V Superman. Though his casting was criticized, Affleck's performance was one of the key elements in the movie.
