It all started when Dr. Celso Palmieri, an assistant professor in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, LA, was reviewing online publications of his country.

Dr. Palmieri came across Melyssa's post on a Brazilian news website.

The post was actually a plea from Melyssa's parents seeking help to get their daughter to the United States for getting the tumor removed.

And so he along with his colleagues made the arrangements for the surgery.
