Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund fans have been awarded the inaugural FIFA Fan Award following their spine-tingling rendition of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' at Anfield in April.
The Europa League Quarter-Final Second-Leg was held the night before the 27th anniversary of the Hillsborough stadium disaster, which made for an emotional night all round.
Reds boss, Jurgen Klopp said it was the best atmosphere he had ever experienced. The game certainly fell into the 'Special Night at Anfield' category with Liverpool scoring a last-minute goal to win the tie 5-4 on aggregate.
Below is a re-cap of that memorable April evening:
Dortmund travelled to Liverpool in mid-April with both sets of supporters mixing freely around the City. The fans of each side had by this point, developed a unique bond following acts of solidarity in regards to the 1989 Hillsborough stadium disaster which killed 96 people.
The respect between to the two sides continued inside Anfield. A minute's silence to remember the 96 victims was impeccably observed by both sets of fans with German supporters in the away end revealing a mosaic which paid tribute to those who had lost their lives.
Then came the moment which clinched the first ever FIFA Fan award. A passionate, emotional and deafening rendition of Liverpool's famous anthem, 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. Liverpool and Dortmund's combined effort raised the roof at Anfield.
This set the tone for an outstanding game of football. With the tie level at 1-1, Dortmund raced into a 2-0 lead in less than ten minutes thanks to goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Divock Origi had reduced the deficit for the Reds before Marco Reus re-established Dortmund's two goal lead with half an hour remaining. Liverpool now needed three goals in thirty minutes to progress to the semi-final. What happened next will go down in Liverpool folklore.
A fine goal from Philippe Coutinho coupled with a header from Mamadou Sakho in front of the Kop got the home fans believing the incredible could happen…
And, in the 92nd minute, the incredible did happen! Centre-back Dejan Lovren headed home to send Anfield into pandemonium. Liverpool won the match 4-3 and 5-4 on aggregate. It was a night no person in the ground would ever forget.
Jurgen Klopp said: "It was one of the most special and yet strangest nights of my life. It has since sunk in and there are so many moments from the night that I will never forget, but the contribution of both sets of supporters is absolutely the main one.
"The atmosphere was the best I have ever experienced. It should serve as an example to everyone about how supporters can influence a team and influence a game.
Klopp also said the Liverpool and Dortmund families should be very proud for winning the FIFA Fan Award.
Flashback to 2005. Another memorable rendition of 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. This time, before Liverpool's Champions League Semi-Final Second-Leg against Chelsea.
