When adults are diagnosed with cancer, somehow they anticipate the misery and the pain they are about to face, but what would you tell a three-year-old that is so naive to understand what cancer is? Their soul wonders, what is happening and why is it happening? It is very hard for a child to conceive the reality of this disease.
The pictures of this girl suffering from Wilms' Tumor, portray the plight of this child which is so devastating that it will break your heart.
Specific abnormalities are present at birth such as lack of iris, blood in urine and an eccentric growth of one side of the body. Children suffering from this type of cancer usually have a single tumor, but sometimes develop more than one tumor in the same kidney.
This is one of the three pictures of Sohana, that were recently released, which clearly depicts the pain in her eyes. The pictures of this helpless child withering in pain are from a small town in India named Chitrakoot Dham (Karwi).
Sohana's condition is immensely disturbing. Her clothes barely cover her protruding stomach. She was diagnosed with a common form of Pediatric cancer in which the patient suffers large forms of growth near the kidneys.
This little girl, traumatised in pain with her abnormally bloated out abdomen, is deprived of basic health care required for the treatment. Around 80 thousand children are diagnosed with this type of cancer every year. These tumors start near the kidneys and become quite large, almost the size of a football.
Sohana is just three years old and this abnormality has already stolen her childhood. At an age when young girls explore the world of colors, her life seems quite gloomy.
There are commonly five stages in Wilms' Tumor under which the patient's condition is defined. Every patient has to go through a surgery followed by chemotherapy. But for children like Sohana, this painful treatment is not less than a nightmare.
