Sounds interesting yet different!
Call it a miracle or science, but it is sure shot true. Well, to know how did this happen, you'll have to go through the whole story.
So, Read on...
A 24-year-old woman is thought to be the first person in the world to give birth to a baby at the Portland hospital in London, after using an ovary that she had cryogenically frozen in childhood.
Mrs Al Matrooshi was born with a blood disorder and to treat it, she had to undergo chemotherapy. Hence, in order to protect her organs, she originally had her ovary tissue removed and frozen at the age of just nine.
The ovarian tissue was stored for 13 years before transplanting it back to her body. And after 13 years, the doctors decided to transplant it back.
Surgeons defrosted the tissue and transplanted few parts back into her body. But somehow the initial fragments didn't help her in conceiving.
The treatment increased the chances of conceiving. Experts told that three embryos were produced later from those frozen segments and out of which two were implanted.
Sara Matthews, a consultant in gynaecology and fertility, stated,
"This is a huge step forward. We know that ovarian tissue transplantation works for older women, but we've never known if we could take tissue from a child, freeze it and make it work again. I am so happy for the family."
She was grateful for her decision to preserve and store her ovarian tissue in the hope that she may seek children in the future.
Well, she absolutely thought in right direction.
It is an inspirational story that could raise hopes of many women who risk losing the chance of motherhood as a result of treatment for various conditions.
