Nobody is sure about life and where is it going to take us but one thing that is certain about life is its end. Death is going to take each one of us someday or the other, and it is this fear of death that is the biggest of all. Fortunate and blessed are those who meet death without any suffering or pain. The rest of us live in fear of when and how are we going to encounter our end.
Life isn't always smooth, beautiful, and worth living for all; there are certain situations in some people's life that seem worse than death. We have summarised some of those things that make us prefer death to life.
These are the responses gathered from online forums like Quora and Yahoo as well as a survey of 180 severely ill people conducted by researchers from the University of Pennsylvania.

Confined to a room on a bed for your entire life is the worst thing that can happen to anyone. Your heart is beating, but you feel lifeless.
A person's dignity and self-respect is the key to her/his confidence. When stripped of dignity through rape or physical abuse, the person loses that confidence and feels naked even when covered in clothes. Life seems to be meaningless, and death seems to be a better alternative.
Dependent on someone for everything, including petty stuff like sitting and drinking water, gives a feeling of being paralysed and helpless. It makes us feel like a burden on others, and if the response from others is equally disturbing, death is all we seek.
The worst thing that can ever happen to anyone is the loss of their own child or seeing him/her suffer from a grave disease. Even a minor fever of our kids snatches away our peace of mind, imagine the plight of parents who go through the ordeal of seeing their kids fight for their life each moment. Losing your own child kills you from inside, and life seems unbearable.
The biggest fear of life is to lose someone close to us. Our life revolves around some special people like our parents, siblings, our partner, and kids. Losing a dear one is equivalent to having a part of our heart pulled off from our body. It becomes difficult to live without them, and all we hope is to either have them back with us or have our soul leave for the heavenly abode to be with them there.
A man was travelling in a bus and wanted a window seat towards the rear of the vehicle. He exchanged seats with another gentleman and was happy to have found his preferred seat. After an hour, the bus collided head-on with a truck and all the passengers sitting towards the front of the bus died on the spot. This man escaped death but had sleepless nights and restless days thinking that had he not exchanged seats with the other person, the latter would have been alive. He did not even get a chance to apologise or repent for his unintentional act that took away the life of someone else. He was full of guilt and instead of thanking God for being alive, all he begged daily for was death to be relieved of this burden of guilt.
When your kids leave you alone and do not find it necessary to keep in touch with you or take care of you, life seems difficult. Loneliness is the main reason behind most of the grief in the world, and when betrayed by your own kith and kin, death is what we wait for.
It is very disturbing to see so many people around the world being tortured and abused, both mentally and physically. In a helpless situation with no ray of hope and no help from anyone to pull them out of this misery, they plead for death every minute of their life. Alas, not everybody is a fighter...
An unbearable pain, whether emotional or physical, is too much to be allowing us to enjoy life. With no respite or medication to such pain, life seems worse than death.
Our ability to breathe is what keeps us alive, and when that is no longer functioning, life looks unfair. Being dependent on a breathing support system to be able to live isn't a very good feeling; it is worse than death.
To be able to feed yourself through your mouth is another of those normal activities that every living being does. And when you are deprived of that simple functioning due to some illness and a pipe is inserted through your nose that runs all the way down to your stomach, it sucks big time! It is painful, and it is not normal.
Inability to control your bladder or bowel movements can be extremely embarrassing and make you home bound for the fear of leaking. Moreover, others may look at you with disgust and this adds to your already traumatic life. Nobody wants to be looked at with eyes full of disgust. Who wants a life that binds you to the toilet all the time? It is another of those things that are worse than death.
We should thank the Almighty for bestowing us with a normal life that may be a luxury for many out there. Value your life and make it worth living! Stay healthy, stay happy!
