Do you know what I do, when I feel like experiencing my childhood again? I log in to Youtube to watch 'Malgudi Days', and I'm sure many of you do the same. Malgudi Days, Indian television's most popular and loved TV series till date and will remain forever.
This magical series which used to take us to an open world which had a simple town, people and families like that of us residing in it and dealing with their lives in the manner, we deal with ours. Kids loved to watch the show, but it was highly followed by grown-ups as well.
This virtual world created by Indian Novelist, R.K. Narayan, had a character which played the major role in making Malgudi Days reach and rule our hearts. A character which was adored, loved and followed by each and every kid then.
Any guesses? Yes, he is none other than Swami. He was a child in that TV world, with whom we used to relate ourselves to. Swami who holds a special corner in our hearts and his innocence that made us believe in our childhood, that a person like us exists in this world.
Was played by Master Manjunath aka Manjunath Nayaker, who started his career as a child actor at the age of three.
Lost his identity after he was cast as Swami in Malgudi Days. Because the adorable character played by him in the show, recreated his identity as 'Swami'.
When he was in the third year of his life, Manjunath Nayaker did 68 movies in Kannada and Hindi. He even worked in a prominent film Utsav.
As young Amitabh Bachchan (Vijay Deenanath Chauhan) in the superhit film Agneepath.
...e stepped into the shoes of Swami for Malgudi Days, won six international, one national and a state award for his flawless acting skills.
Gave up acting to focus on his academics. He pursued BA in English and MA in Sociology and is a professional Cinematographer. He works for Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises in Bangalore and is the owner of a PR agency.
