While studying to work out, why depression and other mood disorders seem to be commonly passed on from moms to daughters, scientists found that the two share a structure of the brain that regulates emotions.
The researcher from The Journal of Neuroscience, who performed MRI scans on all members of 35 healthy families said that the association of the structure of brains of mother-daughter was significantly greater than mother-son, father-daughter and father-son associations.
The research proves that women are likely to understand and relate to the emotions of their mothers than anyone else, and vice versa.
In one study, 90 percent of mothers were able to identify their newborn daughters by odor alone after having spent as short as ten minutes with them.
And, the most interesting point in this, is that a baby recognizes her mother's scent too.
"Our study's uniqueness is that we're the first one to get the whole family and scan both parents and offspring to look at how similar their brain networks are."
Fingerman, author of Aging Mothers and Their Adult Daughters: A Study In Mixed Emotions said,"There is great value in the mother-daughter tie because the two parties care for one another and share a strong investment in the family as a whole."
The attachment between mothers and daughters is one in which the members handle being upset with each other better than in any other relationship.
